Our Solution
GuardianMedTech takes a personalized approach to medication optimization. We do this through the use of interiorly positioned codes on the inside of medication caps and an intuitive medication management smartphone application.

Interiorly Positioned Codes
The premise of GuardianMT is simple. If we get patients to open their medication bottles we improve adherence. GuardianMT uses the specific constraint of requiring a scan of the interior of the medication bottle cap. The code adhered or imprinted into the interior surface of the cap is normally occluded when the bottle is closed rendering the code scannable only when the cap is open. This results in the same behavioral goal as expensive smart bottles and digital caps at a fraction of the cost with no change in pharmacy workflow.

Smartphone App
The GMT app is designed to be simple and intuitive. We only send reminders when needed to prevent alarm fatigue. When a dose is missed, the GMT app sends a series of periodic notifications until either the dose is taken or the medication is no longer within a safe window to take without interfering with the next dose. Patients have the option (and are strongly encouraged) to add a health partner which will be notified if a dose is missed beyond a specified time limit. This function provides an accountability partner, a support system and may serve secondarily as a safety feature by alerting loved ones to reach out when a dose is missed – resulting in the early identification and treatment of falls, sepsis and disease progression.
Market Comparison
Our patented solution focuses on medication adherence and optimization. For pennies a prescription, we confirm when and if the bottle was opened. No other technology has this combination of efficacy and low cost. Compare some of the existing technologies:
Technology | Pros | Cons |
---|---|---|
Generic scheduler (e.g., Outlook) | User familiarity. Exists on all smartphones. Inexpensive to deploy. | Unspecialized to medication adherence. Does not accommodate special circumstances. No way to know if user interacted with the medication container. |
Medication-Focused App | Specialized for medications. Detect drug interactions. Inexpensive to deploy. | User may ignore. User may mark “done” but skip dose. No way to know if user interacted with the medication container. |
Smart bottles | Monitoring of the opening of the bottle. Preconfigured and automated. | Expense of equipment. Applicable to high-cost medications. |
GuardianMT Technology | Monitoring of the opening of the bottle. Preconfigured and automated. Effective for OTC medications. Extremely inexpensive. Accessible by all modern smartphones. |
